THIS WEEKEND!
This variant originated in Austria in 2009. The first Polish tournament took place in March 2015. Despite the cold, fans of this discipline competed in Rzyki, near Andrychów. The competitions were quite popular, so SnowVolley returns this year.
The name of the tournaments alone arouses curiosity in others. I often get questions how they play volleyball on snow. Barefoot and in shorts? Aren't they cold? That's why we organize SnowVolley. We want to show the fans what this discipline is about – explains the tournament organizer, owner of BDB Event company, Marcin Strządała. This year, with a bit of frost, we'll add some good music and lots of smiles and a great atmosphere, which promises a really nice mix. And contrary to what might be expected, the players will not be throwing snowballs – we will prepare balls for them – adds Strządała.
The two tournaments planned for 2017 received the patronage of the Polish Volleyball Federation and will be played for the first time as the Polish Cup in snow volleyball. The first one took place at Hoffa Square in Wisła on February 18-19. For the second, volleyball enthusiasts will move to Kotelnica Białczańska on March 4-5. Competitions for women and men will take place in both locations.
Snow volleyball differs little from the beach version of this discipline. Players compete in pairs under the same rules as in summer. Revealing a secret, they do not play barefoot, but in football cleats. The rest is best to check out yourself in Białka Tatrzańska and meet the first winners of the Polish Cup in snow volleyball.
